Sen. Marco Rubio’s name appears to have fallen off the short-short list of Republican challenger Mitt Romney’s potential vice presidential picks recently, but former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani made his support for the first-term Florida senator quite clear Thursday.
Mr. Giuliani said he liked all the candidates whose names have been bandied about recently, with the perceived top three being Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, the House Budget Committee chairman.
But he wants the Cuban-American Mr. Rubio.
“If I were Mitt Romney, I would pick Marco Rubio,” Mr. Giuliani said on “Fox and Friends” Thursday morning. “I like Marco because it does make a connection to the Hispanic vote that we need.”
“But beyond that, I think it makes a connection to young people,” Mr. Giuliani said of the 41-year-old lawmaker. “I think he’s been most useful in the way he presents himself. Frankly, if this election were people over 40, Romney would win by 15 percent. It’s 40 and below where we need help as Republicans.”
