Oliver Stone: Obama-era America is 'Orwellian'

Filmmaker Oliver Stone says President Obama has played a key role in turning the United States into an “Orwellian” society.

In an interview with the English language Russian news website RT on Friday, the oft-controversial filmmaker said the Obama administration was as guilty of violating the Constitution and the rule of law as the previous Bush administration.

“He has taken all the Bush changes. He basically put them into the establishment. He has codified them,” Mr. Stone said. “It is an Orwellian state. It might not be oppressive on the surface, but there is no place to hide. Some part of you is going to end up in the database somewhere.”

The outspoken director is known for espousing conspiracy theories and questioning American foreign policy in films such as “JFK” and “Salvador.”
