NEWINGTON, N.H. — Mitt Romney urged voters Saturday to be lovers, not haters.
Pushing back against President Obama’s suggestion that the best way to get “revenge” is to vote against the Republican presidential nominee, Mr. Romney said voters should take a more positive approach in the voting booth.
“Vote for revenge?” he said. “Let me tell what you I’d like to tell you. Vote for love of country. It is time that we lead America to a better place.”
Speaking in Ohio on Friday, Mr. Obama talked about the Republican reluctance to accept the same sort of economic plan embraced by the Clinton administration that “asked the wealthiest Americans to pay a little bit more.” When he mentioned Mr. Romney, the crowd booed.
“No, no, no. Don’t boo. Vote,” Obama said. “Vote. Voting is the best revenge.”
The former Massachusetts governor briefly touched on Mr. Obama’s comments during a 15-minute speech here at Portsmouth International Airport, where with three more days to go before the election, Mr. Romney said Mr. Obama has failed to deliver on his promises of four years ago. Mr. Romney played up his ability to work with Democrats to create more jobs, raise lower take-home pay and handle the most pressing issues facing the nation abroad – including the prospect if a nuclear armed Iran.
“This is a time to come together as a people,” Mr. Romney said. “We have had some long days and some very short nights and the the door to opportunity is open and we are going to talk though it. Come walk with me, walk together to a better place.”
