Biden misspeaks again: Gabby Giffords was 'mortally wounded'

Vice President Joseph R. Biden added to his long list of verbal flubs Thursday when he said former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords had been “shot and mortally wounded.”

The Arizona Democrat was critically injured by a gunshot wound to the head during an assignation attempt on her life in early 2011. She resigned from the House last year in order to focus on her recovery.

The phrase “mortally wounded” typically is applied to a person who has received an injury that causes or leads to death.

Mr. Biden made the remark during a speech in New York City pushing for stronger federal gun control laws.
