Mia Love, the Republican nominee for Utah’s 4th Congressional District, has pulled ahead of Democratic incumbent Rep. Jim Matheson in the polls. According to the latest Desert News/ KSL, Love, the mayor of Saratoga Springs, is polling 6 points ahead of Congressman Matheson.
Matheson is the only Democrat in the Utah congressional delegation and attempts to distance himself from his party, given the remarkably conservative district he represents. Although he voted against the the original health care law in 2010, he voted with the Democrats in January of 2011 against the repeal of the health care law.
Rep. Matheson was also the first Democrat to openly statehe would support holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for not handing over thousands of documents subponeaed by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
However, Matheson’s campaign office and his Washington D.C. press secretary refuse to answer any inquiries on Fast and Furious, and it appears that Rep, Matheson wants AG Holder to remain at the helm of the Justice Department.
Mayor Love, on the other hand, told the Daily Caller at the last Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) that she thinks Holder should resign. Love continues to stand by her statement and believes to this day that AG Holder should step down, according to an email from her campaign spokeswoman.
