The presidential commission investigating the BP Gulf oil spill, siding with the international energy giant, challenged claims made by lawmakers in Congress that the oil company and others sacrificed safety to cut costs and were largely to blame for the record oil spill.
President Obama has turned America into one of the most barbaric nations on earth: The country is committed to using tax dollars to kill unborn babies, both at home and abroad. Alarm bells were rung recently by pro-life groups that warned that states such as Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Mexico would be funding abortion as they established high-risk health care pools, despite Mr. Obama's issuance of an executive order prohibiting abortion coverage. It appears his paltry gesture will do little to stop the unfolding Obamacare bureaucratic tangle that will funnel funds for elective abortions.

It now appears that two more states, Maryland and New Mexico, will join Pennsylvania in using tax dollars to kill unborn children. As the National Right to Life Committee discovered, federally funded high-risk insurance pools in these states include "pre-existing condition" insurance plans that cover abortion. The pools have received $5 billion from Congress to provide benefits until 2014, when Obamacare kicks in.

An Obama administration effort to rein in states treading toward using new health care laws to fund abortions - and provide political cover for pro-life Democrats - reignited a politically explosive issue that Republicans and pro-life activists are eager to exploit in the lead-up to the fall midterm elections.

A $160 million grant to Pennsylvania under the Obama administration's new health care law could provide funding for elective abortions, and at least one other state clearly intends to use requested money for such procedures, a leading pro-life group said Wednesday.

Where have you gone, Bart Stupak? Even more importantly, where is your voice, Kathy Dahlkemper?

BP's top executive told Congress on Thursday that he was "deeply sorry" for his company's massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, although he said it could take until August to stop the gusher of oil that has caused devastating economic and environmental damage.
Republican candidate Dino Rossi now leads incumbent Sen. Patty Murray, a Democrat, in the Senate race in Washington, according to a poll released Monday by the University of Washington.
The nation's biological surveillance system is "falling short" of its goals some three years after President Bush ordered the Department of Homeland Security to consolidate biological threats uncovered by agencies like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention into a central early-warning system, a new report found.
The Food and Drug Administration has suspended its plan to cut half its laboratories until a new Cabinet-level panel finishes its review of ways to ensure the safety of imports, FDA Commissioner Andrew C. von Eschenbach said yesterday.
A Food and Drug Administration plan to close half its laboratories is an assault on food safety that probably would expose more Americans to harm from unsafe food, lawmakers charged today.

THE WASHINGTON TIMES Two senior members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee told the Food and Drug Administration they are concerned over what they say is a plan to "drastically cut" Food and Drug Administration laboratory analysts, although an FDA spokesman suggested that the letter is based on a misunderstanding of an agency proposal.

The Bush administration should consider banning food imports from China if the Food and Drug Administration cannot ensure their safety, several members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee told the agency this week.
"Our committee would like to know how our country can be kept safe from bioterrorism if the National Biosurveillance Integration System does not have a permanent director or permanent staff in place to do the job of coordinating our government's response to biologic threats," Mr. Stupak said.
"FDA's ill-conceived decision to close seven of its 13 laboratories likely would expose American consumers to even more danger from unsafe foods, particularly imports," said Rep. Bart Stupak, Michigan Democrat, at the onset of a hearing of the House Energy and Commerce oversight and investigations subcommittee on the FDA and food safety.
