White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told us today that Sen. Dick Durbin invited the president to the festivities, which will be held in Springfield.

It will be the 16th president’s 200th birthday.

Obama will attend and speak at the banquet commemorating Lincoln, Gibbs said.

It won’t be Obama’s first domestic trip, however. He’ll attend the Senate Democrats’ retreat in Williamsburg later this week.
