I just chatted for a minute with former Rep. Tom Davis, a moderate Virginia Republican who retired recently.
Davis was heading into the West Wing for a meeting with President Obama’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel.
Davis has taken off some weight and wore a big smile, seeming relaxed.
“I don’t miss it at all,” Davis said.
He said it always helps to stay in touch with friends and former colleagues, noting that he and Emanuel have a “good relationship.”
He said he had no specific policy agenda to discuss with the White House.
Both he and his wife, former state Sen. Jeannemarie Devolites Davis, are out of politics for the time being and have talked about the changing demographics in Northern Virginia.
She lost her seat in 2007 to a Democrat, and his seat is now held by Gerry Connolly, a former Fairfax County Board of Supervisors chairman, who also is a Democrat.
