Former President Jimmy Carter was at the White House Wednesday meeting with National Security Adviser Gen. Jim Jones.
White House aides declined to disclose the topic of the morning meeting, which lasted about an hour.
Aides said President Barack Obama greeted the 39th president briefly, but they did not have a formal meeting.
Mr. Carter and his wife Rosalynn did not speak to reporters who noticed them leaving the White House.
