A woman was struck by a Red Line train at the Bethesda Metro station just before 8 a.m. Monday morning, in what Metro officials are calling an intentional decision to place herself in front of the train.

As of 10 a.m. the woman, who has not been identified, had been transported to a local trauma center with serious but non-life threatening injuries, a spokeswoman from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue said.

Rescuers were dispatched to the scene at 7:53 a.m. Red Line trains were sharing one track between Friendship Heights and Medical Center but normal service returned to the station at 10 a.m.
