D.C. Council member Harry Thomas Jr., Democrat,  faces a $1 million civil lawsuit filed by the city’s attorney general accusing him of running his Team Thomas charity as a personal and political slush fund.

“When public funds are used for private purposes, that’s a serious issue. This is a problem that continues to occur time and time again.”

— Liz Wiener, Mount Pleasant, union activist

“The corruption is very in-your-face. He just thought he wasn’t going to be questioned or caught. For the head of such a powerful committee to do something like that rocks the city to its core.”

— Beverly Barber, Northwest

“If it’s true, he should be punished to the full extent.”

— Mark Brazier, Alexandria, IT Consultant

“That’s just despicable to me. Taking money away from kids to buy an SUV for yourself — that’s absolutely horrible. It shows a lack of morality.”

— Holly Moore, Arlington, property manager
