The U.S. Attorney’s office has released an audio tape of former Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson telling wife Leslie Johnson to stuff cash into her underpants and flush a $100,000 check down the toilet, as two FBI agents are knocking on the couple’s front door.

Ms. Johnson, a member of the Prince George’s County Council, pleaded guilt this summer to a felony charge of conspiracy to commit witness and evidence tampering, in connection with a federal corruption investigation of her husband.

“Put [the cash] in your panties and walk out of the house,” Mr. Johnson is heard saying on the tape, courtesy of WTOP Radio.

Mr. Johnson, Democrat, pleaded guilty in May to engaging developers in a “pay-to-play” situation so they could do business with the county. His term has expired.

Ms. Johnson, a Democrat, resigned this summer after pleading guilty to the charges. She is set to be sentenced Dec. 9.

The agents allegedly found $79,000 stuffed in Ms. Johnson’s bra after entering the couple’s Mitchellville home.
