BALTIMORE —- Well, Navy lost to Hopkins.
So the unbeaten through the rivals was denied. And so is a likely backup plan to reaching the NCAA tournament.
Instead, Navy will probably have to win the Patriot League tournament to reach its sixth straight postseason.
That will start with a semifinal against Colgate, which will be smarting from a 19-11 loss to Bucknell (which earned home field in the PL tournament with the victory).
It’ll probably mean consecutive games against teams the Mids have lost to. Of course, those were one-goal games, and they were also much earlier in the season.
Can Navy pull it off? Possibly. But there are things to fix from today’s loss, namely a plethora of open shots Hopkins earned.
Granted, the Blue Jays were responsible for some of this. But the Mids probably played their worst defensive game in some time (the best candidate to go back to is a 17-3 drubbing at Hopkins in 2003), and there will be plenty to fix before meeting a potent Colgate offense on Friday.
