Interesting thing that immediately caught some attention here once I got to my hotel room in Detroit.

Maryland‘s crucial recruiting class of 2010 has its first member.

Point guard Terrell Stoglin of Tucson, Ariz., has committed to the Terrapins as they shore up the future of their backcourt for once both Greivis Vasquez and Eric Hayes are gone.

Stoglin averaged more 27 points and seven assists as a junior, and ranks him No. 114 in his class.

But, as is often the case in the crazy world of recruiting, it took less than 24 hours for the possibility of the guy showing interest in another school (in this case, Arizona) if it is offered.

It does sort of beg the question what the point of committing is, but that’s a much larger question than what a single blog entry can provide.

In any case, Maryland has a start to its 2010 class —- theoretically, anyway.
