Got the idea to scour the Pac-10 coaching records today at the thought of Tim Floyd possibily hopping from Southern Cal to Arizona.

He’d be the fifth man to coach at two Pac-10 (or Pac-8, or whatever the name was at the time) schools. He’d also be the second to jump directly within the conference, joining Marv Harshman (who went from Washington State to Washington in the early 1970s).

So now that that’s out of the way, I was intrigued at something else as I looked through the record books. There haven’t been many Pac-10 coaches who also coached in the ACC.

And, until this week, it would seem none that jumped from the Pac-10 directly to the ACC.

Here’s the list who have been employed in both leagues:

* Herb Sendek (N.C. State and Arizona State)
* Tony Bennett (Washington State and Virginia)

From what I can tell, that’s it, though certainly some other former Pac-10 coaches (Bob Bender and Larry Brown come to mind) had some ACC ties.

One last aside: The Virginia staff figures to have an extreme Pac-10 influence, with ex-Oregon State coach Ritchie McKay to go along with Bennett and whoever he brings with him from Wazzu.
