It doesn’t rate as a huge surprise that Braxton Dupree is leaving Maryland after two seasons.
After all the big man saw his role gradually dwindle in both seasons, and Maryland is bringing in big men Jordan Williams and James Padgett next season.
Still, it is significant that the Terrapins have an extra scholarship to play with heading into next season.
What is a mild surprise is that this unfolded now as opposed to a few weeks down the road. Granted, Shane Walker transferred out at roughly this time last year, but there was a sense it might take a little longer for things to shake out.
Instead, Dupree is gone to (for now) parts unknown, his 2.1 points and 2.4 rebounds over 10.0 minutes in 25 games leaving.
It is also worth pointing out two of Maryland’s five-man freshman class of 2007 are now gone with Dupree and Walker (now at Loyola) out of the program. Who’s left? Guards Adrian Bowie and Cliff Tucker and forward Dino Gregory.
More thoughts on Dupree later, but right now it’s time to rap out something for the dead-tree edition.
