Fullback, theoretically, is supposed to be a strength for the Maryland football team.

But Cory Jackson is still recovering from offseason knee surgery.

And junior Haroon Brown twisted an ankle Saturday and is, in coach Ralph Friedgen’s words, “gimpy” at this stage.

Oh, and walk-on Paul Lariviere is still working his way back from knee surgery.

So that leaves sophomore Taylor Watson —- and the opportunity to use more sets with tight ends in Saturday’s scrimmage.

Is the sudden dearth of fullbacks a long-term problem? Nope, and it’s not like Maryland will turn back the clock to 2004 when it basically didn’t have an option at the position.

But it is a temporary annoyance and inconvenience, and one that will probably limit the Terps’ options in their scrimmage come the weekend.
