Some ruminations on a practice taken in by former center Edwin Williams, who stopped by College Park a day after his first NFL preseason game …

* Ralph Friedgen‘s diagnosis of the offense through five days: The passing game is ahead of the curve, the running game probably a a bit behind.

* Cornerback Cameron Chism earned some praise as a guy coming on and working through a hamstring tweak after missing chunks of the spring with a similar issue.

“That’s a good sign,” Friedgen said.

* Daily kicker update: “They’re all kicking about the same,” Friedgen said.

Freshman Nick Ferrara made a 45-yarder, helping to slice some of the deficit in his battle with Mike Barbour and Nick Wallace.

In short, this isn’t getting solved quickly.

Tomorrow’s scrimmage, though, might help shake things out.
