Maryland guard Greivis Vasquez is back in an international competition, playing in the FIBA Americas Championship —- a 10-nation event that will produce four teams for next year’s world championships in Turkey.

After two games, it’s been a mixed bag for Vasquez and his teammates.

Venezuela opened with an 85-69 defeat of Manu Ginobili-less Argentina, with Vasquez scoring seven points and adding three rebounds and seven assists (against four turnovers) in 30 minutes.

Last night wasn’t quite so good. The Venezuelans lost to Brazil 87-67, with Vasquez managing four points, a rebound and three assists in 24 minutes.

Two games in the first phase of the tournament remain —- against the Dominican Republic and Panama, with Vasquez and Co. likely to advance to the second phase with one more win.
