It’s a good story, Zack Greer finishing off his college career at Bryant under his old-turned-new coach Mike Pressler.
He’s blistered college lacrosse’s record book while at Duke, rolling up a career scoring record in 3 1/2 seasons while playing with fellow star attackman Matt Danowski.

He had an extra season of eligibility based on an NCAA ruling that created great consternation throughout the sport. But Greer set a different course than many of his former teammates, going to a first-year Division I school for his final go-round.
It started yesterday, and he was Virginia and defenseman Ryan Nizolek. The top-ranked Cavaliers won 10-4, which is a predictable outcome even if the score was a little closer than expected.
There is no way Greer’s legacy will be tarnished when he has quiet days as the Bulldogs play a fairly ambitious schedule. But there are going to be reminders that one player can only do so much, and that Greer’s success had as much to do with the impressive array of players surrounding him at Duke as it did his own natural gifts around the cage.
In short, Greer is no less a player now than he was last spring, and the sport’s powers-that-be may place him on an All-America team for old times sake in 2009. But no one should expect Greer-like numbers this season, if only because he’s Bryant’s one big fish who everyone is paying attention to rather than one of many huge targets in Duke’s ocean of talent.
