About a month ago, it was confirmed Maryland would play at UNC Greensboro this winter.

The date is now confirmed: Jan. 3 at 2 p.m. at Greensboro Coliseum.

The question fans might logically have is why the devil are the Terrapins playing on the road against a Southern Conference opponent not named Davidson.

Simple: The 2010 ACC tournament is in Greensboro, so this will effectively serve as a dress rehearsal for Maryland for an event to be played a couple months later. It would be no surprise if the Terps wind up staying in the same hotel for this game as they do for the league tournament in March.

Basically, it’s a lot like the 2008 game against Charlotte in the Bobcats’ arena, which also hosted the ACC tournament that year.

UNC Greensboro, by the way, also has home games against Clemson, N.C. State and Wake Forest this season.

So that effectively leaves Maryland with this schedule, with obviously a lot of home nonconference games left to fill in:

Nov. 23-25: Maui Invitational (w/Arizona, Chaminade, Cincinnati, Colorado, Gonzaga, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin)

Dec. 1: at Indiana, 7:30
Dec. 6: vs. Villanova at Verizon Center (BB&T Classic)

Jan. 3: at UNC Greensboro, 2

Clemson (home-and-away)
Duke (home-and-away)
Florida State (home-and-away)
N.C. State (home-and-away)
Virginia (home-and-away)
Georgia Tech (home)
Miami (home)
North Carolina (home)
Boston College (away)
Virginia Tech (away)
Wake Forest (away)
