The MLB Draft is over, the annual 50-round marathon wrapping up this afternoon.

Among the notable names taken from area schools today was Virginia left-hander Matt Packer, who went in the 32nd round to Cleveland, and teammate Tyler Cannon, a shortstop who was Pittsburgh’s 41st round pick.

Maryland, meanwhile, had two players picked:

* Outfielder A.J. Casario (.319/.409/.522-10-45) went in the 38th round to the Chicago White Sox.

* Pitcher Scott Swinson (4-7, 5.54, 59 K/22 BB) was Baltimore’s 46th round pick. He also threw a no-hitter in 2008 against Delaware.

Both Terps are juniors and could return to school.
