INDIANAPOLIS —- The opener here was, to be fair, a complete waste of Gus Johnson.

Few announcers do buzzer-beaters quite like Johnson. This is a guy, after all, who could make a second-grade kickball game sound like an event that could potentially stave off the apocalypse.

But 39-point routs? Not the thing that gets anyone on the Gus Bus.

So when Goran Suton drilled a jumper at the buzzer that was initially ruled no good —- and later allowed by video replay —- well, here’s guessing home viewers got a healthy dose of Gus.

That made it a 36-29 game in favor of Kansas, so late-game theatrics are by no means guaranteed. But at least it is moderately close, which should make this second half a little more interesting than the last one everyone saw here at Lucas Oil Stadium earlier in the evening.
