I’ve promised not to update the absurdly early top 35 for next season until after all the NBA Draft comings and goings are done.

But there’s two teams I know I’ll adjust from a week or so ago.

One is Oklahoma, which should be ranked around 20 rather than in the high 30s. That was a miscue that failed to take into account an impressive recruiting class.

The other is Kentucky, which just got Patrick Patterson back for his junior season.

That is the first of three steps for new coach John Calipari needed to become a favorite to reach the Final Four. The other two are retaining Jodie Meeks and signing perhaps the top recruit in the country, John Wall.

As it stands, the Wildcats have Patterson and freshmen Eric Bledsoe, DeMarcus Cousins, Darnell Dodson (EDIT: Dodson’s a junior college transfer; that was a late evening lapse on my part) and Daniel Orton. And if that near-Fab Five (plus Patterson) is as good as advertised and gets just a little more help, it’s going to be difficult to see anyone in the SEC catching them next winter.
