Yes, it’s offensive line recruiting day here on the blog. That’s after today’s dead-tree edition story examining the Terps’ issues in recruiting between 2005 and 2007.

(This story comes as a surprise to no one, even coach Ralph Friedgen. “You’re doing a story on recruiting,” Friedgen said to me yesterday. “I can almost tell you guys’ stories. You’ve already got it written, you just want me to verify it.”)

The Terps frequently point to the 2007 class as the reason some promising guys have been thrown into the fire earlier than they really should have. And that’s valid.

But this chart (which also ran in the dead-tree edition) lays out probably a more significant reason for the problems: Other than the effective Phil Costa at center, Maryland has no one else left on its offensive line from its 2005 and 2006 classes who were on scholarship to begin with.

There’s more to come on this issue, but here’s something to chew on for now.

C Phil Costa                 32-23   Has started at guard and center; only current o-lineman in fifth season
