In just the latest in a long line of signs my mind doesn’t work like most folks’ do (that is to say, something approximating normal), one of the thoughts that popped into my head on my drive home from Byrd Stadium on Saturday circles around a numbers.

As in 22 and 63, the jersey numbers of Cameron Chism and Bennett Fulper, respectively. Fulper started last week, and Chism figures to receive a chance at cornerback in place of the injured Nolan Carroll.

Who was the last Maryland starter to wear No. 63? That’s easy: Andrew Crummey. As for No. 22? That was kicker Dan Ennis back in 2006.

That in turn spawned this little project to determine the last Maryland player to start wearing each jersey number. The research goes all the way back to 1999 for data —- and successfully burned off an hour of my afternoon.

Three numbers (28, 62 and 94) are retired. Another four (53, 65, 81 and 93) didn’t pop up in that span, though there easily could have been a missed.

Here’s the 1-through-99 rundown for the last guy to start wearing the number (again, going back to 1999):
