One significant personnel morsel came out of today’s media session with Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen.

It appears Eric Franklin, the true freshman safety, will be in on special teams as the Terrapins seek the right combination of guys on those units. That would make him the seventh true freshman to play this year.

In addition, both defensive end Justin Anderson and tailback D.J. Adams are receiving extended looks in practice this week. Do they wind up playing? Hard to say (and probably not a great bet with Adams given the Terps’ running back depth).

Even if they don’t play, there’s still a significant portion of Maryland’s freshman class that will make a difference come Saturday against Rutgers. And chances are, their contributions are going to grow as the season rolls along.
