ANNAPOLIS —- Trey Miller provided an important answer during spring practice, seizing control of the backup quarterback job behind senior Kriss Proctor.
With nearly two weeks of preseason camp complete, he’s continued his trends from the spring.

The problem is, that’s not necessarily the perfect scenario.
“Up and down, but he’s kind of a gamer,” coach Ken Niumatalolo said. “In practices, he’s kind of been not too good, but in the scrimmage I thought he played very well. That was kind of him in spring. He wouldn’t practice so well but do good in the scrimmages. I’d like for him to get more consistent in practice.”
Of course, the Midshipmen won’t complain if his best work comes in a game, especially, considering the program’s history with injuries at the position. The last Navy quarterback to start every game in a year was Lamar Owens in 2005.
