Maryland brought 65 with it to Georgia Tech earlier this month.

On the surface, it looked like injuries were taking a toll. Instead, coach Randy Edsall had a different take Thursday.
“I usually just take the guys that are going to help us win,” Edsall said. “Anywhere I’ve been, I’ve never come that close to taking that many, anyhow. That’s no issue for us. We have 66 that I think are going to go on the trip. I’m taking a couple guys that might not be playing just from a leadership standpoint to try and help with some of the younger guys at their position.”
Of course, there’s also the issue of whether Maryland has 72 available players to travel, anyway. Maryland has a 96-man roster, had 10 players listed as out last week, has one transfer sitting out and 11 true freshmen who have both yet to play and did not travel to Georgia Tech. That leaves 74, with season-ending injuries to Tyrek Cheeseboro and Avery Graham last week dropping the total to 72 on the button.
Like Edsall said, the travel roster limit isn’t an issue. It just happens to be no concern in more than one way.
