The secretive congressional group charged with finding ways to slash the federal debt will hold a public hearing next Wednesday, with Congressional Budget Office Director Doug Elmendorf scheduled to testify.

The bipartisan Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, better known as the supercommittee, has gathered almost daily since last month but has held only two previous public hearings. The Oct. 26 hearing, titled ” Overview: Discretionary Outlays, Security and Non-Security,” will be held at 10 a.m. in Room 216 of the Hart Senate Office Building at the U.S. Capitol.
