President Obama’s message commemorating the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashana includes a pledge reaffirming his administration’s commitment to Israel.

“While we cannot know all that the New Year will bring, we do know this: the United States will continue to stand with Israel, because the bond between our two nations is unshakable,” Mr. Obama said in a statement Tuesday.

Some American Jews — and Israelis — have expressed concern with Mr. Obama’s call for the borders of Israel and Palestine to be based on 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps. The White House has been beating back reports that some Jewish donors are withdrawing their support for Mr. Obama.

The Jewish New Year will be celebrated from sundown Wednesday to nightfall on Friday.

“Beyond our borders, many of our closest allies — including the State of Israel — face the uncertainties of an unpredictable age,” Mr. Obama said. “That is why my Administration is doing everything we can to promote prosperity here at home and security and peace throughout the world.”
