Six weeks out from the special election, Democrat Rep. Ed Markey holds a 6-point edge over former Navy Seal Gabriel Gomez in the Massachusetts Senate race.
The WBUR poll of 497 likely voters found that Mr. Markey has a 41 percent to 35 percent lead over Mr. Gomez, who is trying to pull off the upset in the historically blue state.

“Either way you look at it — with leaners or without leaners — you’ve got a race within single digits coming out of the primary,” Steve Koczela, president of the MassINC Polling Group, told WBUR. “You’ve got a competitive race.”
Mr. Markey and Mr. Gomez, who has never held elected office, are running for the seat that former Sen. John Kerry, a Democrat, vacated to become secretary of state.
Gov. Deval Patrick of Massachusetts tapped a former top aide, William “Mo” Cowan, earlier this year to fill the seat, and he also set up a June 25 special election.
