President-elect Barack Obama is a big fan of rapper Jay-Z, to the point where he has mimicked one of the emcee’s trademark gestures.
Vice President Cheney, meanwhile, told us in an interview last week (read the transcript here) that he is not a big fan of rap. In fact, he said he can’t even understand it.
While discussing parties at the vice president’s residence for wounded U.S. military veterans, Mr. Cheney said that the country music singers that they invite to perform for the troops are actually a “compromise” for him, since he prefers big band music.
“The country and western is sort of a compromise between old folks — you know, the big band sound of the ‘50s and the rappers that the younger generation understands,” Mr. Cheney said. “I have trouble even following it.”
Now that’s old school.
