Let the countdown to training camp begin. The Redskins wrapped up their off-season activities today and are off until 8:30 a.m. on July 30.
Today’s practice was longer than normal — nearly 1 hour, 45 minutes — and was notable because LaRon Landry attended for the first time.

* Landry said his absence was for “personal reasons.” Yeah, right. If somebody in Landry’s family was suffering from a health problem, we would have been told about it and Landry’s no-shows would have been justified.
Of showing up for a meeting with Zorn on Wednesday and practicing today, Landry said: “I just wanted to come back and finish off with a good note and get back out there with my teammates. I was at home dealing with a couple personal issues but I was training and my teammates knew I would come back ready to go.”
Said Zorn: “The good thing is that he didn’t come back sluggish — he came back hard, performed well and got back into the swing of things. Being with the team and participating in the OTAs would be better, but he’s working his plan. … He’ll be very much ready to go when we start training camp.”

* Jason Campbell again looked sharp, particularly in the red zone portion of practice. He said he’ll spend the time off visiting his family but still preparing for the season. “The next six weeks, you take a little break and come back ready to roll because it’s going to be hot and steamy.”
Fourth-string quarterback Chase Daniel didn’t receive many snaps on Monday but got a ton of work today, including time with the first-string offense. It’s going to be tough for Daniel to make the 53-man roster because Todd Collins still looks serviceable, which keeps Colt Brennan as the No. 3 passer.
* Albert Haynesworth’s 8-year old son was all over the artificial turf during the practice, climbing on the equipment and having a lot more fun than the media.
“He loves to be out playing,” he said. “If you ask him, we would have another week of OTAs but that’s not on my agenda.”
Another quote from Haynesworth proves that he doesn’t read the D.C. papers or watch the local television stations.
About Landry finally arriving, he said: “In Nashville, you would be all over the media because you didn’t come to a voluntary workout. Here, it’s a little more relaxed.”
The Landry thing was all over the local media because he was the only healthy player not here.
* Zorn said he has some vacation plans for his family but nothing adventurous like extreme mountain climbing.
“I’ll have some football stuff with me but it won’t monopolize my vacation,” he said. “I have some expeditions planned but none on a steep rock.”
