An internal Department of Homeland Security memo (h/t National Review) originally obtained by Senator Chuck Grassley, Iowa Republican, is receiving more attention from various media now for its advocacy of giving illegal immigrants amnesty without any act of Congress.

The memo outlines how “administrative alternatives” could be used “in the absence of Comprehensive Immigration Reform” to extend benefits and protections to various groups of illegal immigrants. In essence, the memo suggests that new guidance and regulations could help make a number of illegal immigrants permanent residents. 


In my previous posts on this matter, a group of GOP senators in late June only heard about this memo and demanded answers from the administration. Only until recently, has the administration responded saying that the memo should not be equated with official White House policy on the matter.  More to come…
