The Republican National Committee will elect their Chairman at the Gaylord Hotel in Maryland on Friday. Pre-buzz around the election for chair are questions as to why the incumbent GOP Chairman Michael Steele is remaining in the race given weak support among voting delegates. Mr. Steele has as much support as other candidates, but as a rule, if the incumbent cannot find new votes on subsequent ballots, it means his support has essentially bottomed out.

On Thursday evening, candidates for not just RNC Chair but also other elected positions advertised parties in different suites at the host hotel. Interestingly, some wondered if Chairman Steele hosted a party of his own Thursday evening. If the RNC Chairman did host a social gathering, he sure did a great job keeping it a secret. Elections for the RNC Chair begin at 10 a.m. Friday.
