STANFORD, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky State Police say they have arrested a man in the 2016 death of a 22-year-old woman.

On Saturday, State Police said in a news release that they arrested 22-year-old John Stamper of Stanford, Kentucky on Thursday on a murder charge in the death of Desiree Sparks.

Authorities identified Sparks’ body in the Stanton area in October 2016 after she had been reported as a missing person last seen in Danville late September of that year, where she lived.

Stamper was booked into the Boyle County Detention Center. It was not immediately clear whether Stamper has an attorney.

State Police say they are still investigating Sparks’ death.
