Mike Glenn grew up on Navy bases as the son of a career sailor but then decided to annoy his father and joined the Army after he graduated from high school in the Dallas area. He did a hitch as an enlisted soldier in Germany during the Cold War, where he spent a considerable amount of time in the field on maneuvers. After leaving the Army, he moved back home to northeast Texas and entered the University of Texas at Arlington where he studied history. He also took Army ROTC classes at UT Arlington and upon graduation received a commission as a Second Lieutenant. He was assigned to the 3rd Cavalry Regiment at Fort Bliss in El Paso and took his platoon to the Middle East where he fought in the Gulf War. He got into journalism after Operation Desert Storm and has worked at newspapers and magazines throughout Texas. He joined The Washington Times from the Houston Chronicle. Pentagon remembers losses, heroism in marking anniversary of 9/11 attack

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Gen. Charles Q. Brown, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, will host a ceremony on Wednesday in honor of the 184 people killed 23 years ago in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Pentagon. The private event will be for family members to remember their loved ones who were killed when Islamist radicals hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 and crashed it into the building.

Oil tanker burns after latest attack in Red Sea by Yemen’s Houthi rebels

Firefighters are struggling to control a blaze aboard a Greek-flagged tanker and oil appears to be leaking into the Red Sea after the vessel was attacked last week by Iran-backed Houthi rebels who are attempting to restrict maritime traffic through the area, Defense Department officials said Tuesday.
