Washington Post Sports: Rewriting Redskins History

Early in his just-posted piece on Dan Snyder’s romancing of Mike Shanahan, the Post’s Mike Wise writes:

While Snyder’s lengthy courtship of Shanahan has been known, many of the details of his pursuit have not. It paralleled the last year of Zorn’s tumultuous two-season tenure as Redskins coach, a fact that led Snyder and his advisers to go to elaborate lengths to keep it from becoming public so as not to appear to both undermine Zorn nor scuttle their efforts to land Shanahan.

Right. Snyder wanted to handle everything with class and discretion. That’s why, barely a week after the loss to the 0-19 Lions  – the “nadir” that caused Dan to pursue Shanny in earnest – Zorn was relieved of his play calling duties, which were then handed to new “offensive consultant” Sherman Lewis. If that ain’t undermining your coach, what is?
