Obamas earn $1.7 million in 2010

President Obama and his wife Michelle earned a gross income of $1.7 million in 2010, the White House announced Monday, with “the vast majority” coming from Mr. Obama’s book proceeds.

The first family paid $453,770 in federal taxes and donated $245,075 to 36 different charities. The couple paid $51,568 in state income taxes to Illinois.

Meanwhile, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and wife Jill earned a gross income of $379,178, paying $86,626 in federal taxes. They paid out $14,479 in Delaware income taxes and $3,515 in Virginia income taxes.

The Bidens gave $5,350 to charity, the White House said.
