The Wizards cut rookie forward Taj McCullough this morning. McCullough, a 6-foot-7 Winthrop product, was signed to the team’s training camp roster on Sept. 22, but never appeared to be a legitimate candidate for the regular season roster, finding himself in a three-way battle with veterans Dominic McGuire and Linton Johnson for the backup small forward position.
McGuire had a strong training camp and coaches have praised the improvements he made to this game over the summer, and Wizards coach Eddie Jordan on Thursday spoke highly of the role Johnson was playing as a defensive small forward. McCullough, who in training camp was limited by an ankle injury, played 11 minutes of the Wizards preseason opener and scored two points. The following night he scored four points in eight minutes of action.
The Wizards host the Detroit Pistons tonight at 7 p.m.
