Among the other notable developments are the rise of several ACC schools. Virginia bolts up to No. 15 with a victory at Arizona. That’s an excellent start for the Charlottesville Singletarys, but they’ve done it before against the Wildcats only to fade later.\

Clemson jumps up to No. 23 after winning at Mississippi State and dispatching Old Dominion. Come Selection Sunday, the road victory over a solid SEC team will look very, very good. Miami also checks in at No. 40 after winning a tournament in Puerto Rico by knocking off Marist, Virginia Commonwealth and Providence. The Hurricanes are a much different team with Anthony King in the frontcourt, and with so much in flux in the ACC, an 8-8 league record is not out of the realm of possibility for Frank Haith’s team.\

On the flip side, N.C. State tumbles nearly 20 spots for losing at home to New Orleans (Wolfpack assistant Monte Towe came to Raleigh after a stint as the Privateers’ head coach) and Maryland fell into the next five after squeaking past Hampton and Northeastern. Also in that group between 41 and 45: George Mason, which is off to a 3-0 start.\
