Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen was downright giddy about his running back depth at the start of the season.
But the problem there, as he will acknowledge, is with the flow of a game only two or three of those guys are going to get all that much work.

Da’Rel Scott and Davin Meggett are pretty secure as the Terrapins’ top two backs. So that leaves a scrum afterward.
Maryland can simply redshirt D.J. Adams and the injured Caleb Porzel and not worry about much. Those guys’ time doesn’t have to be now.
But the No. 3 back is a different story —- even now that Gary Douglas has created some separation between himself and Morgan Green.
“Probably the next guy that would get a shot is Douglas,” Friedgen said. “He’s not as sharp in practice as he always needs to be. That would help out confidence in him if he had really good practices.”
A lot of the issues sound like the sorts of things that could be expected from a guy who has barely played. Douglas has worked on the kickoff return team as alternate return option to Torrey Smith, but little else.
He’s also elusive, and the Terps could probably find a place for him. But there are concerns about miscues he could make based on practice performance.
“Not that he has bad practices,” Friedgen said. “Chris [Turner] or Jamarr [Robinson] are lining him up sometimes in the right spot. That kind of stuff. Right now, we’re trying to eliminate errors. That doesn’t help us putting a guy in the game.”
