The Caps just finished up their morining skate here at Nassau County Coliseum. Tomas Fleischmann will return from a leg injury, but Eric Fehr and Tyler Sloan will not play. Sean Collins is in for Sloan. Brent Johnson is in net for the Caps.
UPDATE: Here is what the lines should look like tonight (Fehr was in Giroux’s place this morning, but since he isn’t playing, I am guessing that is where No. 33 will be):
Sloan said the swelling in his leg is down, but he still can’t push off and generate any power in his first step. As he put it, that’s a bit of a problem when you are a defenseman and you have to turn and go chase dump-ins all night long.
Fleischmann said he thinks his leg problems are behind him. There were a series of pucks and sticks off his leg that added up to it being so sore he just couldn’t play on it anymore.
Mike Green said his shoulder feels better, but acknowledged it didn’t feel great Saturday night against the Canadiens.
The Caps power play is on a roll and is up to fifth in the league. Bruce Boudreau said not to read too much into the recent super hot streak, because a cold streak will likely follow. He said the team is shooting the puck more, but he likened power play streaks to batting averages in baseball — for every 6-for-13 there was probably an 0-fer before or after it.
