* Sergei Fedorov practiced today, but came off early. He said he didn’t want to comment on his status until he talked to the training staff. Bruce Boudreau said he appears to be the closest to returning, but he is questionable for tomorrow against the Islanders.

* Mike Green did not skate, but he was out on the benches talking to guys toward the end of practice, and then he was stickhandling with some masking tape in the dressing room afterwards. Translation: He is itching to get back. He said the plan is to skate tomorrow and Friday and play Saturday in Toronto, but that is still uncertain at best.

* No real concrete updates on the other three guys (Poti, Semin and Erskine) — still a lot of “don’t know yet” and “day-to-day” with those guys.

* With Peter Laviolette now on the unemployment line, Bruce Boudreau — with all of 86 games under his belt — is now the most-tenured coach in the Southeast Division (though Paul Maurice is back for a second stint Raleigh).

UPDATE: Boudreau said he is “99 percent” certain Alex Ovechkin will play tomorrow night. He said the day off was a maintenance day. He also said not to read too much into the lines, and that the Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kozlov unit would probably be reunited tomorrow night.
