Sami Lepisto has indeed been sent back to Hershey, the Caps confirmed. Lepisto had four points in seven games, but his play was spotty and he had a rough go last night in Carolina. It would seem to easy to surmise that one of the injured defensemen (Mike Green, Tom Poti or John Erskine) is going to be ready to play Wednesday against Boston — and it is probably Green or Poti.

It would also probably not be wrong to take away from this that guys like Bryan Helmer and Sean Collins have played a little better than Lepisto in their short auditions. Lepisto remains a long-term option for the Caps, but given the rash of injuries, they need to go with the six guys who are playing the best right now.

More tomorrow morning when the Caps return to practice in Arlington.
