Good afternoon folks,
Corey’s taking a bit of a breather (trust me, he’s earned it), but he’ll be back with you when the Caps head to Dallas for their game on Saturday.
Tonight, of course, is Alex Ovechkin’s return to Phoenix, his first visit there since scoring “The goal” back in 2006, his rookie season. If you’re not familiar with “The Goal,” well, you’re probably not a Caps or hockey fan (in which case, welcome to In the Room!), or, well, yeah, that’s pretty much your only excuse.
So here it is (and I chose this one off of YouTube because the name made me laugh):
And, for what it’s worth, below I’ve pasted our “Caps Update” box that ran in today’s newspaper previewing tonight’s game, by someone who likely knows a lot less about hockey than you do. Enjoy.
WASHINGTON CAPITALS at PHOENIX COYOTES
When: 10 p.m.
Where: Jobing.com Arena, Phoenix
TV/Radio: CSN, AM-1500
Goalies: Capitals — Jose Theodore (2-1-0, 3.17). Coyotes — Mikael Tellqvist (9-8-2, 2.74 in 2007-08) Injuries: Capitals — Questionable: D Tom Poti (groin). Out: D Brian Pothier (post-concussion symptoms, RW Viktor Kozlov (knee). Coyotes — Out: D Jonas Ahnelov D (finger), C Joel Perrault (concussion).
Outlook: An interesting matchup in goal, as on one side you’ll have Theodore, who’s never lost to the Coyotes in eight starts, and on the other side Phoenix will give Mikael Tellqvist his first start of the season. … This will be Alex Ovechkin’s first trip back to Phoenix since January 2006, when he scored “The Goal,” an acrobatic, sliding, on-his-back gem that has been viewed millions of times on the Internet.
