Defenseman Mike Green has been nominated for the Norris trophy, which is awarded to the NHL’s top defenseman. Boston’s Zdeno Chara and Detroit’s Nicklas Lidstrom have also been nominated.

Green had one of the great offensive seasons for a defenseman, leading all rearguards with 31 goals and 73 points.

“It is definitely a big honor,” Green said. “I am very proud and it has been a long season. To be rewarded like that is pretty special. I never really thought that would ever happen, but here it is.”

It is a bit of a bittersweet day for Green, since his team is starting at a 3-1 deficit and face elimination tomorrow night.

“Yeah, I am just thinking about tomorrow,” Green said.
