Flyers coach John Stevens said top defenseman Kimmo Timonen will miss tonight’s game against the Capitals.

Timonen is battling the flu and did not make the trip with the Flyers. Ossi Vaananen, who has been a healthy scratch recently, will take Timonen’s spot in the lineup.

But he isn’t likely to play with Timonen’s D partner, Ryan Parent. Stevens said he is working with combinations but is considering moving Randy Jones up to play with Parent and sliding Vaananen into Jones’ old spot with Andrew Alberts.

Also, Antero Niittymaki is expected to start in goal for the Flyers.
