Here’s a few quick things from the post-practice scrums:
* Bruce Boudreau said Karl Alzner was recalled to play, so expect to see him in the lineup tomorrow night. He was skating with Milan Jurcina for much of practice and John Erskine was with Brian Pothier, but Boudreau said he hasn’t decided who will be the odd man out on the blue line.
Alzner said he’s dropped a bunch of his little superstitions that have become part of his lore when he went back to Hershey. He thinks focusing more the game at hand has helped him out. In typical Alzner fashion, he had some great soundbytes. He said he and Jay Beagle were plotting a big ping-pong tournament in Hershey, but he had to miss it.
* Boudreau said he’s confident in the kids (Michael Neuvirth, Simeon Varlamov and Daren Machensey) to back up Jose Theodore until Brent Johnson is ready to return. He said he hasn’t talked to George McPhee about any possible trade or a specific long-term plan. Boudreau also said he’s OK with Jose Theodore shouldering more of the load than the team probably wanted him to at the beginning of the season.
* Neuvirth said the coaching staff told him he is likely to play next weekend when the team has back-to-back games at Tampa Bay and Florida. He has been through a crazy, crazy past 14 months, being a part of EIGHT different teams (even he didn’t realize it was that many).
* Boudreau said Brooks Laich is “iffy” for tomorrow’s game against Florida. No word on Viktor Kozlov, but he has to be doubtful at best.
